Engineering is all about solving complex problems. It does that by breaking down systems into their component parts, analysing how each part interacts with every other, and formulating plausible models to generate optimal solutions to the problem. Engineering is a practical hands-on subject, as well as being cognitively intensive. Engineers must use the most efficient language at their disposition to make logical sense of how things happen: Mathematics. Hundreds of years of research and experimental trial and error, has gone into inventing and producing things such as automobiles, flying airplanes, automated industrial machines, and computers in all shapes and sizes.
